MARLBOROUGH — Four players donning a uniform for the Concord-based Assabet Valley Under-19 women’s hockey team Sunday afternoon were absolutely thrilled to be doing so in a rink in the state of Massachusetts.
Six days earlier, they had returned from an 11-day trip to Hungary representing the United States in the U-18 Women’s World Championships, falling to Canada in the gold medal game.
In the championship game of the USA Hockey Tier 1 Girls’ National Championships at New England Sports Center, Assabet took on Shattuck St. Mary’s, their rival from Minnesota that included five skaters from the same Team USA squad.
The four-day tournament culminated with Assabet pulling out a 2-0 victory.
