Veronica Corning has been consistent in her approach: work harder than everyone else on the tennis court.
The Beverly resident, a 22-year-old senior at Northwestern University, has used every practice, every match, essentially every moment she has ever taken the court, to hone and refine the intricacies necessary to succeed at the highest college level.
Day by day and practice by practice, the 5-foot-10 Corning developed, eventually earning a college scholarship.
Through Wednesday — playing No. 1 singles and on the top doubles’ team for Northwestern — she has posted career best single-season records in singles (17-7) and doubles (20-7), including twice being named the Big Ten player of the week.
