Regular service restored after heavy smoke forced evacuations at State Street MBTA station

Regular service has been restored after heavy smoke filled the State St. MBTA station on Friday evening, the MBTA tweeted. The announcement came shortly after the smoke had forced passengers to evacuate.

Just after 5 p.m., there were reports that heavy smoke was filling the station and train cars. According to one tweet, passengers and employees were being evacuated.

The MBTA tweeted that there would be minor delays on the Orange Line heading north because of a “disabled train” at the station.

After announcing the delays, the MBTA responded to someone who reported the tracks were smoking at the Downtown Crossing station.
