Construction has begun on the “Needham Street Village Shops,” a 19,200-square-foot retail development in Newton that is being touted as an important step toward updating the traffic-clogged corridor into a more pedestrian friendly shopping area.
The development is located at the eastern end of Needham Street, by the intersection with Winchester Street, on the former location of International Bicycle Centers and Skipjack’s Restaurant. International Bicycle Centers is now located almost directly across Needham Street.
“We are very excited about this development, it goes toward our vision of the N2 Corridor as a place to do business, shop, and visit,” Mayor Sett Warren said. “This type of development will increase walkability along Needham Street.”
