A car crashed into the parking lot at Melrose High School this morning, damaging more than a half-dozen other cars before coming to rest, Melrose police said. The driver, who was not visibly injured, was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
No pedestrians were in the lot at the time, and no one else was injured, said Lieutenant Mark DeCroteau.
School was in session and students were “fortunately all inside at the time,” DeCroteau said.
DeCroteau said the incident happened at about 9:10 a.m. when the car, driven by an elderly woman, left a condo development across the street from the high school, drove across the street, over a sidewalk, and through a chain-link fence into the high school parking lot.
DeCroteau said the crash was under investigation.
