6 pounds of cocaine seized after traffic stop on I-84 in Sturbridge

A New York man is facing charges in Dudley District Court after State Police allegedly found about six pounds of what they believe to be cocaine in his backpack early today during a highway traffic stop in Sturbridge.

Soumana Mounkaila, 46, of the Bronx will face six charges that include trafficking cocaine, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct, State Police said in a statement.

Mounkaila was stopped by Trooper Jason Trout for motor vehicle violations while driving along Interstate 84 eastbound at about 3:40 a.m., State Police said.

While Trooper Trout was checking his ID, Mounkaila allegedly reached for a backpack sitting on the floor behind the car’s passenger’s seat. Mounkaila became “uncooperative” and tried driving away, prompting Trout to call for additional troopers, the statement said.

Mounkaila was removed from the car and arrested.

A search of the vehicle uncovered three packages wrapped in plastic wrap, each weighing about two pounds and filled with a substance believed to be cocaine, the statement said.
