About 60 local residents sat in the small theater at the Friedman Middle School to talk with political and health leaders about the scourge that has struck several towns across the Commonwealth. Many came bearing their own tales of struggles with addiction.
Bristol District Attorney C. Samuel Sutter said for years a bag of heroin cost $20 on average. Now, around Taunton, he said, a bag can be found for $7.
The city saw four heroin overdoses on Saturday alone, adding to the ongoing heroin abuse seen across the state.
