N. Reading man charged with shoving T police officer

A North Reading man is facing arraignment today in Dorchester District Court on a charge of resisting arrest after he allegedly shoved an MBTA Transit Police officer out of the way while attempting to flee from being arrested, officials said.

Sean Burke, 29, was seen by Transit Police smoking a cigarette at the MBTA JFK UMass station just before 2 p.m. Monday. When an officer asked him to extinguish the cigarette, Burke complied and exited the station. He allegedly returned moments later, requesting to be allowed reentry through the fare gates without paying.

Transit Police learned Burke had several outstanding arrest warrants from Lowell and Woburn District Courts for drug possession, larceny, and receiving stolen property.
