Felix D. Arroyo announces he will run for Register of Probate and Family Court in Suffolk County

Former Boston City Councilor Felix D. Arroyo has announced he will run for Register of Probate and Family Court in Suffolk County.

“I have dedicated my life to public service with an emphasis on children and families. As your Register of Probate & Family Court, I will work to make sure that everyone is treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. I am asking for your vote and support so that I can continue my life’s work,” Arroyo said in a Web posting.

Arroyo, who was the first Latino member of the City Council, said he would officially sign up for the race at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the secretary of state’s office.

“I believe deeply in public service. My family and I have been given tremendous opportunities, and I am honored to be able to give back. My experience as both an administrator and an elected official make me uniquely qualified to serve as your Register of Probate & Family Court,” Arroyo said the statement.

Arroyo’s son, Felix G. Arroyo, was also a City Councilor. After losing last year in the preliminary election, he joined Mayor Martin J. Walsh’s campaign. He was named the city’s chief of health and human services in January.
