Hingham woman attacked in bed by rabid raccoon

A Hingham woman was attacked Wednesday morning by a rabid raccoon that slipped into her home through a cat door and crawled into her bed.

Ginny Ballou, 73, woke up at around 10:30 a.m. because she felt a furry animal biting her lips and chin, she said.

She tried to pry it off her face, but cut her fingers on its teeth, which she said were locked onto her lips.

“It was a vicious struggle,” said Ballou, who was at home recovering today. Her hands were wrapped in hospital gauze and she had ten stitches running from her bottom lip down her chin.
