State Police find distressed man who ran into snowy woods in Otis

State Police have found a Western Massachusetts man who left his home in distress and ran into the snowy woods early today, police said.

He was transported to Berkshire Medical Center for evaluation, State Police said.

Officers in Lee received reports at 7 a.m. that a distraught man, who was possibly suicidal and intoxicated, had disappeared into the woods in the neighboring town of Otis, State Police spokesman David Procopio said.

The identity of the man has not been released due to a potential medical or psychological condition, Procopio said.

Informal measurements made near the area where the man disappeared show about 6 inches of snow on the ground and temperatures in the low 20s, said Pittsfield Municipal Airport manager Mark Germanowski.
