Student arrested in alleged attacks at Endicott College

A 19-year-old Endicott College student was arrested Tuesday night after he allegedly assaulted three students on campus over the weekend, police said.

Dillon Destefano, of Riverdale, N.J., is being charged with two counts of aggravated assault and battery, Beverly police said.

A male student told police he was walking near Main Campus in Beverly just after 1 a.m. Sunday when three students approached him. Destefano allegedly punched him in the face, police said.

The student was knocked unconscious and suffered a broken jaw, according to Richard Wylie, the college’s president.

About 20 minutes later, another student was also approached by the three students. Destefano allegedly punched that student as well, causing broken bones around the victim’s eye, said Wylie.

The third assault, allegedly involving only Destefano, was reported at about 10 a.m. Sunday, and that victim received minor injuries, said Wylie.

All three students were taken to the hospital. As of Tuesday night, only the first victim remained hospitalized, according to Wylie.

College administrators sent an e-mail to the Endicott community Monday morning asking anyone with information to contact campus police. The three students were identified shortly after, said Wylie.

Destefano played on the men’s ice hockey team his freshman year, but did not make the team this season, said Wylie.

He had minor violations on his record at the college and had never displayed violent behavior on campus previously, according to Wylie.

“He only had problems with the things I suspect all college students get written up for,” said Wylie. “I have no idea why he would behave this way.”

Destefano, along with the two student accomplices, have been suspended from the college. The names of the other students involved in the attack, who were not arrested, are not being released at this time, said Wylie.
