Employees at the local Whole Foods grocery store stopped a man from stealing a meal and a $15 bottle of beer last Sunday, police said. The man selected the Belgian beer and about $12 worth of prepared food and began to leave the store when employees stopped him, according to a report filed by Police Officer Joseph Ellis. The man told them that he had run out of food stamps, the report said. The employees described the man as extremely apologetic, and said he had told them that taking the beer was a stupid decision, and that he had a drinking problem he was trying to get help with, according to the report. No charges were filed, but Whole Foods banned the man from the store and told him he would be arrested if he returned, the report said.
