The Reading Police Department this month launched a Facebook page in hopes of enhancing public participation and interaction between police and the community. According to Police Chief James Cormier, the department is hoping to mirror its earlier success on Twitter. That account was launched a few years ago and now has more than 2,000 followers. “We are hoping that Facebook and Twitter allow us to directly communicate and interact with the people we serve,” Cormier said in a written statement. “Not only will we be able to get important public safety information out, but residents will also get to know more about the great work our officers do.” Twitter and Facebook will not be monitored around the clock and should not be used to report emergencies. The Reading Police Department’s Facebook page is at www.Facebook.com/Readingpd and its Twitter account is @ReadingPolice. Residents may also visit the department on the Web at www.readingma.gov/police-department .
