Boston man allegedly trailed man out of downtown video store, robbed him

A 27-year-old Boston man was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court today on armed robbery charges after he allegedly followed a man out of a video store in downtown Boston and stole his money, police said.

Eric Watson was arrested Sunday night after he allegedly reached into the man’s pockets and took his money, while displaying a gun, police said.

The victim told police he first noticed Watson behind him in the line at CEX on Winter Street. After the victim made his purchase, Watson allegedly approached him outside the store and demanded money, police said.

Boston police officers broadcast a description of Watson. State troopers found him shortly afterwards in the Public Garden and arrested him, police said.

Troopers, with the help of K-9 units, searched the Public Garden and Boston Common for the gun, but did not find one, police said.

While Watson was in custody, officers found he had violated bail for two previous charges in 2008. Because of this violation, he is being held without bail in the Nashua Street jail.

His will appear in court on Feb. 6 for his probable cause hearing in the robbery case, according to the clerk’s office.
