Man retrieved after threatening to jump from Mass Pike overpass

A man threatening to jump from a Massachusetts Turnpike overpass near the Boston University Bridge in Boston was safety removed Saturday afternoon, State Police said.

Boston University police officers noticed a man around 12:30 p.m. near the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Carlton Street, which hovers over the turnpike, State Police spokesman David Procopio said. The man said he was going to jump off the bridge, Procopio said.

State Police closed the rightmost lane of the turnpike as a crisis negotiator spoke with the man.
