Three-alarm fire heavily damages Lawrence three-family building; no injuries reported

A three-alarm fire broke out in Lawrence this afternoon forcing firefighters to evacuate the building before part of the roof collapsed, officials said.

The fire broke out in a two-family home on Monmouth Street at 1:49 p.m., a Lawrence Fire Department dispatcher said.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, said fire department spokesman Sy Ulinao. The home may be destroyed.

As of 5:20 p.m., firefighters were still battling the blaze, Sy Ulinao said.

No one was injured.

The American Red Cross assisted a family of seven from the first floor, including a toddler, and a family of five from the second floor. They will be staying in a hotel and were providing blankets while waiting in the cold.
