A three-alarm fire broke out in Lawrence this afternoon forcing firefighters to evacuate the building before part of the roof collapsed, officials said.
The fire broke out in a two-family home on Monmouth Street at 1:49 p.m., a Lawrence Fire Department dispatcher said.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, said fire department spokesman Sy Ulinao. The home may be destroyed.
As of 5:20 p.m., firefighters were still battling the blaze, Sy Ulinao said.
No one was injured.
The American Red Cross assisted a family of seven from the first floor, including a toddler, and a family of five from the second floor. They will be staying in a hotel and were providing blankets while waiting in the cold.
