Retaining wall collapse leads to inspection of entire six-unit Allston apartment building

A retaining wall in front of an Allston apartment building partially collapsed last night, bringing into question the building’s structural integrity, officials said.

Boston firefighters responded to 15 Bellvista Rd. shortly after 9 p.m. where a retaining wall had partially collapsed, spilling debris onto the abutting sidewalk. The retaining wall supported a walkway up to the building, said Steve MacDonald, Boston Fire spokesman.

No injuries were reported.

Most of the 13 residents of the six-unit building left for the night to stay with friends, MacDonald said.

An inspector responded to assess the building’s integrity after the partial collapse. The results of the assessment were not immediately available, MacDonald said.

The property owner of the apartment building called a contractor last night, who was ready to fix the wall once the building inspector issued his findings, MacDonald said.
