Gray skies, temperatures in 40s persist into Tuesday

WBZ AccuWeather Forecast for December 2

An ocean storm may brush the Massachusetts coast with rain showers late tonight, but the rest of the region should remain dry. Relatively mild weather will push into the region midweek before a cold front enters the state Friday, bringing a chance of rain, according to the National Weather Service.

“It’s most likely that late-night showers tonight will just impact the Cape and islands,” said William Babcock, weather service meteorologist. “Wednesday should be pretty sunny, and that will be the transitional day between the next system, which will bring precipitation.”

Today will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. The day will be dreary but dry, with a slight north wind. Clouds will linger overnight, and temperatures will fall into the mid-30s, according to the weather service. A low pressure system off the mid-Atlantic coast will pass close offshore, and could bring brief showers to coastal communities.

The clouds will persist into Tuesday, with a high near 45. Central Massachusetts could see some partial clearing through the day, but most regions will stay cloudy. A north wind could gust around 13 miles per hour, according to the weather service. Temperatures will fall into the low 30s overnight.

Wednesday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 46. Cloud cover will increase late in the day, and a warm front will pass over the region overnight, bringing a few spotty showers after 11 p.m. Temperatures will drop into the upper 30s overnight, according to the weather service.

Thursday will see early morning showers and cloudy skies. Temperatures will reach into the low 50s. Heavy rain showers are possible overnight as a cold front enters the state, and a few snowflakes are possible depending on how low overnight temperatures drop.

“In Boston, snow probably won’t fall,” Babcock said. “But in the far interior, there could be some snow showers.”

Friday will see more rain showers and more clouds. Temperatures will settle in the mid-40s during the day. Rain and snow showers are possible overnight Friday, and temperatures will fall into the low 30s. Snow and rain showers could continue into early Saturday, according to the weather service.

“It looks like it will be a mostly cloudy, unsettled weekend with unseasonably cold daytime temperatures in the upper 30s,” Babcock said.
