Hopes by the developer of the SouthField community to get some help from Beacon Hill are getting a lukewarm reception from state lawmakers near the new community being built on a former naval air base that straddles Weymouth, Abington, and Rockland.
The proposed legislation from Florida-based Starwood Land Ventures LLC aims to change the governing structure of SouthField and shift more municipal responsibilities to the three towns. Starwood officials said the changes are necessary to keep the ambitious project from stalling.
Some area lawmakers say they are taking their time to review the draft legislation and listen to what their constituents have to say about it before moving forward. Other local legislators are keeping mum on the subject, and not speaking about it at all.
