Hopes are high for a Nov. 21 fund-raiser to increase awareness about animal abuse. Organized by the owners of Scituate’s Riva Restaurant in light of the abused Quincy dog “Puppy Doe,” the Kiss a Canine event has already received an outpouring of support, with restaurants donating food, residents giving raffle items, and Cohasset’s Red Lion Inn offering its venue hall for the event. “People are coming out of the woodwork to help us,” said Kerry Tondorf, Riva’s co-owner. Although a suspect has been arrested in the Quincy case, Tondorf said this fund-raiser should only be a beginning. “This guy got caught — how many dogs are languishing in pain and abuse and no one knows and they die and the [owners] bury them?” Tondorf said. “This should be the beginning of raising awareness of what’s out there.” The event includes dinner and a live auction. Tickets are $75, and all proceeds will go to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Tondorf is encouraging people to buy tickets in advance at www.kissacaninegala.com.
