Exterminators are going after rats in the alphabet section of town, according to health director Joyce Sullivan. “We’ve had complaints of rats from about O Street to XYZ,” she said. Exterminators have been placing baited traps for the past few weeks on town-owned property in the area, including dunes and the old railway beds. “We’ve had complaints before [over the years], but this is over a longer period of time,” Sullivan said. She said residents should secure their trash in containers with tight lids and not leave out food for any animals, even their own pets. “That includes bird seed,” she said. Last year, the town sued to stop a woman on Beach Avenue from putting out birdseed, saying it created a health hazard. That case is still pending.
