NEWTON -- John Fadule is a football player. To understand that is to understand why he did what he did in the fourth quarter of his team’s 15-12 win over Newton North last week.
With less than two minutes remaining and Wellesley High clinging to a three-point lead, Fadule inserted himself into the lineup, to keep the Tigers from tying the game or taking the lead.
At 6-feet, 205 pounds, he didn’t look out of place, but he had never played the position before. Not only that, but his duties on the offensive side of the ball usually keep him fairly preoccupied: He is the starting quarterback at Wellesley High.
A transfer from Milton Academy, Fadule didn’t record a tackle, but Wellesley won its first game.
