The mayor will hold an informational meeting about the town’s new trash program on Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Abigail Adams Middle School. The program starts Sept. 16 and entails residents putting out their trash in wheeled, 64-gallon bins — one for recycling and one for all other household garbage. The town’s new trash vendor, EZ Disposal, is delivering the carts; anyone who hasn’t received them by Wednesday should contact EZ’s customer service at 781-233-2211. Residents are responsible for bringing any refuse that doesn’t fit in the bins to the transfer station in Braintree, at a cost of 10 cents a pound. Bulk items will be picked up by appointment. While some residents have complained that the new plan shifts costs to individuals and is inconvenient, Mayor Susan Kay has said it will increase recycling while decreasing the town’s trash disposal costs.
