Before his arrest in June on murder and other charges, former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was on the verge of being cut from the team after multiple “missed practices and thug-life stunts,” according to a new Rolling Stone article on the once-promising star.

The article, titled “The Gangster in the Huddle,” appears in the latest issue. The magazine posted a summary of the article on its website Tuesday night.

According to the summary, head coach Bill Belichick was “infuriated” over Hernandez’s missed practices and other issues, and he was “one misstep from being cut.”

A team spokesman did not respond to messages seeking comment on that contention Tuesday night.
