The Peabody Institute Library is preparing to restore and upgrade portions of its main library, located at 82 Main St. Contractors will perform finishing work for the structural repairs the library undertook as a result of damage to the roof trusses on the 1854 building that were sustained in a 2011 winter storm. The project also involves window replacements, masonry improvements, an elevator upgrade, and measures to make the building more accessible to people with disabilities. Construction is expected to begin later this summer and conclude early next year. Public access to certain areas of the library may be limited during some phases of the project, according to library officials. The South and West Branch libraries are unaffected by the project.
