The city is holding an unveiling ceremony to mark the completion of renovations to Shapiro Park on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The public is invited to take part in the celebration and check out the newly revamped park. Ice cream will be served. The work on the neighborhood playground, located at Alpine and Silver streets, began in April, and included updates to tot-lot equipment, swings, benches, trash receptacles, and landscaping, as well as the installation of a new rubber-like surface to replace the sand base. The project was funded with $78,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant money and money from the city’s fiscal 2013 capital improvement plan.
