Gerald O’Neill has been named Marshfield’s building commissioner, after filling the post in an interim capacity after Michael Clancy left for a job in Hingham several months ago. Matthew McDonough, chairman of the Board of Selectmen, said O’Neill had worked directly under Clancy for six years and was instrumental in the Building Department’s adoption of electronic processing for building permits, cutting turnaround time from a month to less than five days. After public interviews with two candidates July 1, the Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to appoint O’Neill. Also interviewed was Scott Barbato, the building commissioner in Norton.
