Town Manager René Read told Duxbury selectmen last Monday that 73 non-residents and eight residents have applied for a full refund of their over-sand beach stickers, which amounts to $22,815 in refunds. The town decided to grant refunds after closing two large swaths of Duxbury Beach, possibly until July 15, in order to protect nesting piping plovers, a species at threat of becoming extinct. The deadline to apply for a refund is 12:30 p.m. Friday. The town will mail refund checks within 30 days after the refund application is received.
