The town is one of several that have been approached by the Massachusetts Medical Marijuana Dispensary Association as a possible location for a medical marijuana manufacturing plant. Town Administrator Frank Lynam said association officials approached him in late May and, while he and selectmen are not interested in having a dispensary located in town, they are “willing to keep an open mind” if the group gets back to them with a firm proposal for a manufacturing plant. “We’re a small town and we don’t draw a lot of commercial entities,” he said, adding that the facility would be secure with all plant cultivation and processing taking place indoors. Lynam said the association, which was formed in response to the ballot initiative legalizing medical marijuana, is also considering sites in Marlborough and Lowell. The group is looking for rental space of about 50,000 square feet, and no such space is currently available in town, Lynam said. “They have a lot of legwork to do before I would even spend any time thinking about it. I do want our community to know we were approached,” he said.
