A man who allegedly assaulted and bound a Bridgewater woman in her home on April 15 has been released on $50,000 bail with conditions, according to Bridget Norton Middleton, spokeswoman for the Plymouth County district attorney. Mark R. Crean, 49, of Stoughton, is due in court July 18 for a pretrial hearing. He is charged with assault to murder, kidnapping, and aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, among other charges, she said. As conditions of bail, he must stay out of Bridgewater, observe a curfew, and abstain from using drugs and alcohol, she said. Crean was arrested May 17 after Bridgewater police learned the victim was being treated for fractures and other injuries. According to police, the victim was thrown down stairs, kicked, punched, and strangled, and at one point had a plastic bag placed over her head in an attempt to suffocate her. She was allegedly placed on a couch, bound with wire “for a period of time,” sedated, and prevented from communicating or seeking medical treatment for several weeks.
