Local middle and high school students can use this month’s vacation week to expand their theater or basketball skills. Tuesday is the last day to register for Pakachoag Music School’s “Tropical Paradise in Shrewsbury” production at First Congregational Church, just across Boylston Street from the Shrewsbury Public Library. Students will learn performance skills using scenes from Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “South Pacific’’ and modern shows like “The Lion King” during the Shrewsbury Arts Alive program. The classes are designed for students in grades 6 through 8. Mentorships, with reduced tuition, are available by application for students in grades 10-12. Classes will meet Feb. 18 to 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a Friday evening show for family and friends. Details on the performance will be in the registration packets. Tuition for the week is $320; siblings can register for $305. Details and online registration are available at www.pakmusic.org. Sports-minded students can register for a basketball clinic running Feb. 19 through 21. The program is open to boys and girls in grades 3 through 8. Led by Shrewsbury High School boys’ basketball coaches Adrian and Andre Machado and Gerry Nowosacki, the clinic will focus on building individual skills using drill stations. The clinic will be held in the high school’s field house from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day. Tuition is $50. Contact Nowosacki at 508-842-6014 or e-mail him at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
