State education officials will visit Stoughton schools starting Jan. 28 to evaluate steps the school district has taken to improve student learning. Superintendent Marguerite Rizzi said she believes state officials will be impressed by progress in such areas as installing comprehensive English and math programs for all elementary schools; creating two district-level curriculum supervisor positions, and outfitting all classrooms with electronic whiteboards and wireless Internet access. Rizzi said the district has kept class sizes reasonable and that 94 percent of Stoughton High graduates go on to some form of post-graduate education. The state report and recommendations for improvements will be made public shortly after the visit and will be published on the websites of the Stoughton schools and the state education department.
