Residents have an opportunity to shape the city’s community and economic development action plan for fiscal 2014 at a public hearing this Thursday. The session, open to all, will be held at 6 p.m. in the third-floor conference room of the City Hall annex, 120 Washington St. The action plan will outline Salem’s housing and community needs, and how the city should prioritize its federal funding under the Community Development Block Grant and Home Investment Partnership Program . Salem annually receives an allotment of block grants directly from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, and an allotment of funds administered through the North Shore HOME Consortium. The grants can be spent for various initiatives to benefit low- and moderate-income residents, and on affordable housing initiatives. At Thursday’s meeting, residents can learn more about the action plan and offer their input into what should be included. They can also submit written comments through Thursday to the Department of Planning and Community Development, 120 Washington St., Salem MA 01970. For more information, call the Department of Planning and Community Development at 978-619-5685.
