Governor Deval Patrick has appointed William Moynihan as chairman of the board of trustees at Northern Essex Community College. Moynihan, who retired last year as the chief probation officer at Haverhill District Court, has served as a member of the board of trustees at the college for four years. “Northern Essex was a stepping stone for me, leading to further education and a challenging career, and it’s an honor and a privilege to be chosen as chair of the college’s talented board of trustees,” he said. In addition to his commitment to the college, Moynihan has been serving on Mayor James J. Fiorentini’s drug task force since 1999 and has been awarded the Special Recognition for Distinctive Service Award by the Massachusetts commissioner of probation. Moynihan graduated from Northern Essex with an associate of arts degree, and from Boston State College, where he earned a bachelor of science in law enforcement. He later attended Anna Maria College, earning a master’s degree in criminal justice.
