Kudos for official’s green measures

James Kelly, the town’s building commissioner and zoning enforcement officer, has been honored by the state for his efforts boosting local energy conservation efforts. This year’s Leading by Example awards recognized state agencies, municipalities, institutes of higher education, a regional planning commission, and two individuals for significantly reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, and increased recycling, renewable energy, and other clean energy and environmental quality initiatives. Kelly has overseen installation of solar thermal and photovoltaic systems at the community center, and has managed a street-light conversion project that will save Sudbury an estimated $21,000 a year. He is also working on a project that would add a large-scale solar array at the town landfill, and efforts to retrofit historic buildings.
