Thoreau Farm wins preservation awards

The Thoreau Farm Trust has received several awards for its efforts to restore the Henry David Thoreau birthplace and use the site for educational purposes. The Massachusetts Historical Commission presented the nonprofit organization with a Historic Preservation Award in two categories, “Rehabilitation and Restoration” and “Education and Outreach.” Thoreau Farm also was given this year’s Crystal Eagle Award from the Freedom’s Way Heritage Association, in honor of its exemplary work in the preservation of historic places. The Thoreau birthplace at 341 Virginia Road has been transformed through a $1 million restoration project, and is open to visitors for tours as well as educational programming.
