The $5.3 million project to rebuild the Connors Memorial Swimming Pool on River Street has earned accolades for the state’s Department of Conservation and Recreation. The Patrick administration bestowed its Leading by Example Award on the agency, which operates the pool and oversaw the repairs, in part because the project incorporated solar photovoltaic cells for generating electricity and heating the bathhouse and water. The Leading by Example Awards were created in 2007 and are given to state agencies, public higher education institutions, communities, and individuals displaying environmental leadership. The pool reopened in July after being closed for 10 years.
