Maine governor signs budget bill
AUGUSTA, Maine—Maine Gov. Paul LePage has signed a budget-balancing bill that closes a $120 million revenue shortfall while cutting Medicaid coverage for thousands of Mainers.
LePage signed the bill Thursday night while in Madison, where he was taking part in a town hall-style meeting, after the Senate gave the measure the needed two-thirds majority approval for it to take effect immediately. The cuts are for the current fiscal year, which ends June 30.
Lawmakers must now make another round of about $84 million in proposed cuts to Department of Health and Human Services budget for fiscal 2013, which begins July 1.
