WATERVILLE, Maine—Police say a Maine state representative has been arrested, accused of pointing a handgun at a man in Dunkin Donuts parking lot.
Fifty-eight-year-old Republican Frederick Ladd Wintle of Garland faces charges of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon in Saturday's incident in Waterville.
Media reports identified the victim as Michael Seamans, a photographer for the Morning Sentinel.
Police said Wintle accused him of being a drug dealer for a woman whose baby recently died at a Waterville homeless shelter. The man denied knowing or having had any contact with Wintle. Police say neither man is believed to have any connection to the infant's death.
Wintle was not immediately able to make his $3,500 bail and was jailed. He's scheduled to appear in court July 26.
