KENNEBUNK, Maine—Hannaford Supermarkets says it will be opening a store in a building in Kennebunk, Maine, formerly occupied by a Stop & Shop store.

Spokesman Michael Norton said Tuesday that Hannaford has bought the building and plans to open a store in the spring. The store will employ 150 full- and part-time workers.

Stop & Shop opened the store -- its first and only in Maine -- in 2007, but shut the doors at the end of October.

Hannaford has not set an opening date for the 56,800-square-foot store. Maine-based Hannaford operates 171 stores in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont.
