PORTLAND, Maine—Police in Maine's largest city are investigating two home invasion robberies that took place just nine hours apart.

Police say a man reported that three men forced their way into his St. John Street apartment at about 7 p.m. Wednesday, threatened him with a knife and demanded money. The victim fled, and the suspects searched the apartment and took undisclosed items before leaving.

Police are also investigating another home invasion Wednesday morning in which a woman reported three men forced their way into her apartment, displayed a handgun and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
