Nancy Pelosi to headline annual state Democrats dinner

HARTFORD, Conn. --Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi will headline the Connecticut Democrats' annual dinner next month.

The California congresswoman visited the state during the past election season, campaigning for the three Democrats in targeted congressional races. Both U.S. Reps. Joe Courtney and Chris Murphy ultimately defeated Republican incumbents Rob Simmons and Nancy Johnson, while Democrat Diane Farrell lost her second challenge to U.S. Rep. Chris Shays.

Pelosi, the first female Speaker of the House, will be the guest speaker at the Jefferson Jackson Bailey Dinner on April 20 at the Connecticut Expo Center in Hartford. Presidential contender and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama headlined last year's event.

The dinner is named for two presidents and John M. Bailey, former state Democratic chairman and ex-national Democratic chairman.
