Lexington has hired the principal economic development planner from Somerville to head the town’s department. Town Manager Carl Valente announced the appointment of Melisa Tintocalis as Lexington’s economic development director. She started on Feb. 1 and will earn a salary of $74,700, according to the town. In Somerville, she worked on initiatives to support local businesses and encourage new commercial investment in targeted areas, Valente said in a press release. Tintocalis is replacing former Lexington economic development director Susan Yanofsky, who left the post last year. - Brock Parker
