Randolph High School’s homecoming football game last Friday was memorable not only because the team won, but because it was the first game played on the new athletic field. The Blue Devils defeated the Case High School Cardinals of Swansea, 34-16, improving their record to 2-6 this season. In March, the town approved a $2.8 million project to improve the school’s athletic facilities, which included flipping the orientation of the new artificial turf football field. Although the game could proceed as planned, the field is still not fully completed and attendees were restricted to the paved areas of the facility. Coach Joe Cotton said his players had eagerly anticipated playing on the new field. “I believe that the homecoming win is the start of a new era not only for football at Randolph, but for all sports that will use the new facility,’’ he said. Cotton was happy that the seniors - including captains Armani Reed, Jason Dillon, and David Frye, who have been with the program for four years - finally had a chance to play on the new facility. “What a difference it made not only in their attitudes, but their performance as well,’’ said Cotton. - Wendy Chow
