A ribbon cutting was held on Thursday to celebrate completion of a solar energy project at the Woburn Housing Authority’s senior housing building at 59 Campbell St. Twenty 4-by-10-foot solar thermal panels were mounted on the rooftop of the seven-story, 100-unit building. Officials say the harnessed energy will result in a 50 percent reduction in the building’s domestic hot water bill. In the two months since the installation, the authority has saved about $250 a month. The project was managed by the nonprofit agencies Action for Boston Community Development and Action Inc. of Gloucester. The installation is one of 35 energy-saving projects at Massachusetts low-income housing settings that the two agencies are jointly managing. Funding for the projects comes from federal stimulus money awarded through the US Department of Energy’s Sustainable Resources for Consumers program and the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center. - John Laidler
