The Board of Selectmen has formed a committee to explore how to dissolve the two-town Mendon-Upton Regional School District. Mendon has formed a similar committee, said Ken Glowacki, Upton’s treasurer. In a mission statement earlier this month, the Upton board stated the committee will be asked to develop a method and a price tag for seceding from the district within approximately six months. The prompt for the examination, according to Glowacki, who initiated the petition that resulted in the board’s call for members, is the increasingly complicated school-budget process. Both towns have recently grappled with multiple Proposition 2 1/2 override votes in order to cover this fiscal year’s appropriation for the district. “There has been this nagging problem, over the years, about what is the level of funding,’’ Glowacki said. “I have conversations with people all the time about that, and it sort of motivated me to get this started.’’
