With South Boston's seven Catholic parishes unable to agree on which of them should close, the regional vicar has decided to call for shutting two of the best known in the neighborhood: St. Augustine's and Gate of Heaven, storied churches founded in the Civil War era, which have been the religious homes of many of the city's most powerful politicians.
