Return of honk!

October 5 - 7th

It's not a science fiction movie about a killer goose or a sequel to a kids' musical - it's the follow-up to the highly successful 2006 festival of activist street bands. They'll be on the march in Davis Square and beyond, proving that art, music, protest, and celebratory fun can coexist. Twenty bands from around the country play second line, klezmer, funk, Bollywood, Balkan, mardi gras, and carnival music; local outfits include the Stick & Rag Village Orchestra, Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band, and the Second Line Social Aid & Pleasure Society Brass Band. Music and events are going on all weekend long, so hit the streets, raise a ruckus, and celebrate. Fri 3-5 p.m., symposium on the philosophy of HONK! at Tufts University. Sat noon-7 p.m., performances outdoors in Davis Square, Somerville, followed by shows at Johnny D's. Sun noon, parade from Davis Square to Harvard Square, Cambridge, afternoon shows in Harvard Square. Check website for full schedule. Most events free. 617-628-2580.
