Blame residents of Oz -- us

IN JOAN Vennochi's ''The amazing shrinking president" (op ed, Oct. 9), she compares President Bush to ''that man behind the curtain" but misses the parallel comparison between Oz and the United States.

After all, how did the wizard get his job? The people of Oz elected him after he bumbled into Emerald City as a result of poor navigational skills and ineptness as a balloonist. We should spend less time vilifying this hapless puppet and more time bridging the gaps that put this C student into office in the first place: intransigence on both sides of issues such as abortion, gay rights, entitlement, and religion.
